Wry Neck

Have you ever woken up in the morning from a deep sleep and suddenly realised that you cannot move your neck?

There is a very good chance you may have been suffering from an acute wry neck!

The phenomenon occurs when a group of muscles in the neck tighten and spjoasm in a sudden onset of pain and discomfort (usually on one side of the neck).

At Ormond Physiotherapy we can treat neck pain of this description with some local manual techniques such as mobilisation, massage, stretching and postural exercise.

It is important to consult with your physiotherapist as early as possible so the injury can be treated quickly to ensure a speedier recovery.

Most wry neck injuries take anywhere between 2 – 7 days to recover with prompt physiotherapy treatment.

Future stretching programs can then be put in place to minimise the chance of recurrence. In addition to sleeping in a funny position, your pillow and work ergonomic set up can play a part in causing the onset of wry neck. Both of which are able to be assessed by your therapist.
