TENNIS ELBOW

TENNIS ELBOW AT ORMOND PHYSIOTHERAPY

What is it?

Although the term tennis elbow is widely adopted within the health field, extensor tendinopathy is a more appropriate term. Generally an individual will experience pain on the lateral or ‘outer’ aspect of their elbow where the extensor tendons insert onto the bone. Pain arises due to overload of these tendons which control grip and extension based movements. Ironically this injury is actually more common in individuals who don’t play tennis.

Symptoms at Ormond Physiotherapy

  • Pain is typically localised to the lateral or ‘outer’ elbow
  • Pain can sometimes radiate into the forearm
  • Pain with grip and extension activities i.e. picking up a cup, turning a door handle

Risk factors at Ormond Physiotherapy

  • Change in training load, technique or equipment
  • Completing an unaccustomed task repetitively for a long period of time i.e. painting, gardening, carrying bags/boxes when moving
